I'm on a much needed vacation this week, and thought it a good time to throw this in.
I've had people ask how I figure out what I'm going to draw, it is! The last posted page straight from the sketches.
When I get the general idea of how I want the page to look, I fill in the last panel and the first...usually....then sketch in the action in between. I don't limit myself to one strict layout as you have probably noticed. In fact I try to change the layout to make things interesting. If the page is mostly dialog the standard even spaced panels seem to work well, but depending on the action, can see it will change.
You can also see it's really complicated high tech sketches and writing too. Oh yeah. I used to carry posteit notes in my pocket so I could sketch out any ideas that came to me while out living that crazy lifestyle of trips to the grocery store and the post office (wild dude), but now I've gone "high tech" and downloaded a drawing app for my phone. Talk about technology...whoot!!
So there it is...the secret to the comics innermost workings. I would give a scan of what goes on inside my brain but...CF doesn't have a rating for that. Besides I try not to look in there too much, all those voices and such..ugg.
Thanks for reading!!

That's a really cool way of working. With drawing the first and last panels and then filling in. It's almost like how an senior animator draws the key poses and a inbetweener comes in and fills in the rest. I like looking at the roughs too.

Hope you're enjoying some vacation time.
